Price: Gen 3 costs ₹4,400 more

Gen 3 starts at ₹44,300 and Gen 2 at ₹39,900 MRP, a difference of ₹4,400. In both generations, polarised and Transitions lenses cost more than clear or standard sunglass lenses.

Gen 2 is currently discounted. At Alankar Vision it starts at ₹31,920, which makes the real gap closer to ₹12,000. See the full Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 price list.

Battery: one more hour

Gen 3 lasts up to 9 hours on a charge, against 8 hours for Gen 2. The charging case adds up to 50 hours for Gen 3 and 48 hours for Gen 2. Both charge to about 50% in around 20 minutes.

For most people this is a small gain. It matters most if you record a lot of video or take long calls.

Calls: a sixth microphone

Gen 3 has a 6-microphone array, one more than Gen 2. Meta says it blocks around 90% of street noise on calls. If you take calls on busy roads or in traffic, this is the upgrade you will notice most.

Camera: much the same

Both generations have a 12 MP ultra-wide camera and record up to 3K video, with 32 GB of storage. If photos and video are your main reason to buy, Gen 2 already does the job.

Style: Aviator and Zena are new

This is the biggest visible change. Gen 3 comes as a Wayfarer, Aviator or Zena. Gen 2 comes as a Wayfarer, Skyler or Headliner.

  • Want the classic Aviator shape with Meta AI? Only Gen 3 has it.
  • Prefer the Skyler cat-eye or the rounded Headliner? Those are Gen 2 only.
  • The Wayfarer is available in both.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 worth the extra money over Gen 2?
It depends on what you value. The camera and storage are the same. You pay more for an extra hour of battery, clearer calls and the new Aviator and Zena styles.

Will Gen 2 still get updates?
Meta has continued to update earlier Ray-Ban Meta glasses through the Meta AI app. Meta has not published an end date for Gen 2 updates.

Is the Gen 3 camera better than Gen 2?
On paper they are the same: 12 MP photos and up to 3K video.

Should I upgrade from Gen 2 to Gen 3?
For most Gen 2 owners the changes are small. It makes sense mainly if you want the Aviator or Zena shape.
